Entry Fee and Conditions
According to a report in the South China Morning Post, the challenge began on October 23, when the gym in Binzhou, Shandong province, released an online poster promising a Porsche Panamera—a luxury car priced in mainland China at about US $155,000 (₹1.3 crore)—to any participant who could meet the extreme target.
But joining the contest isn’t free. Participants must pay a registration fee of 10,000 yuan (around ₹1.23 lakh), which covers meals, training, and shared accommodation in a fully enclosed facility. The gym capped enrolment at 30 participants, with seven to eight already signed up.
Health Experts Raise Red Flags
Medical professionals have since urged caution. Losing 50 kg in 90 days translates to shedding over half a kilo per day, a rate considered unsafe by almost all health standards. Experts caution that healthy weight loss averages about 0.5 kg per week, not per day. “Losing 0.5 kg per day is far too fast,” said Dr Zeng, a Chinese hernia-surgery in an interview with South China Morning Post.
A Viral Gimmick or a Dangerous Trend?
Online reaction has been mixed. Some social-media users admire the challenge’s ambition; others have called it a publicity gimmick designed to generate clicks and sign-ups. “If I lose 50 kg, I’ll only have five left—will I still be alive?” one user joked on Weibo. “Lose 50 kilos? I might just disappear before I touch the car keys,” said another user.
For anyone tempted by the offer, the gentle truth remains: the Porsche in question isn’t new—it’s a used 2020 model owned by the gym’s founder, who reportedly introduced the challenge to “promote fitness and discipline.”
