$1.1 Billion Labor Day Powerball Jackpot Is One of the Largest in U.S. History

The Powerball jackpot has only exceeded $1 billion 13 times in U.S. history. It happened on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, but no one won the big prize, although the drawing produced several new millionaires.

That means the Powerball jacket will soar to $1.1 billion for the Labor Day drawing on Sept. 1. That’s the fifth-largest prize in the lottery’s history.

According to the Powerball website, the cash value for Monday’s $1.1 billion prize is $498.4 million.

No one Won the $1 Billion Powerball Jackpot on Aug. 30, But Multiple Millionaires Were Produced

The Powerball website confirmed that no one won the jackpot on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025. That drawing did produce the following:

  • Three Match 5 + Power Play $2 million winners, in Colorado, Indiana, and New Hampshire.
  • It also produced nine Match 5 $1 million winners, with four in California, and one each in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.
  • Another 115 tickets won $50,000 prizes, and 27 tickets won $150,000 prizes.

The winning numbers on Aug. 30 were 3, 18, 22, 27, 33, and a Powerball of 17. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

“No ticket matched all six numbers drawn Saturday night, pushing the Powerball jackpot to an estimated $1.1 billion for the next drawing on Monday night – the game’s fifth-largest prize ever,” the Powerball confirmed in a statement.

The Winner of the Labor Day Powerball Jackpot Could Choose 29 Annual Payments or the Lump Sum

“America has waited all year for the chance to play for a billion-dollar jackpot, and what better time than Labor Day for a $1.1 billion Powerball drawing!” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, in that statement. “With just one $2 ticket, you could win it all – all while helping to support good causes close to home.”

The Powerball noted that a Labor Day winner “will have the choice between an annuitized prize estimated at $1.1 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $498.4 million. Both prize options are before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5-percent each year.”

Powerball tickets cost $2 each and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold,” the Powerball says.

Powerball drawings “are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, Fla. Powerball drawings are also live streamed on Powerball.com,” according to the Powerball. “The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.”
