After a ton of teases and a very long wait, Vin Diesel’s most personal film franchise project is back from the dead. As reported by Deadline, a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter, released all the way back in 2015, is now officially in development. But the fact of the new movie getting made isn’t the biggest news.
Of course, the film will star Diesel in the titular role of Kaulder, the witch hunter. And, he’ll have the company of an old friend. Michael Caine has reportedly signed on to return for the sequel, too. This means the true secret weapon of The Last Witch Hunter is back.

Michael Caine’s return to Witch Hunter
In the first Last Witch Hunter, Michael Caine played “The 36th Dolan,” a kind of mentor figure to Kaulder, who was trying to retire from the whole witch-hunting business. The film ended with The 36th Dolan deciding to hang around and continue to assist Kaulder in their fight against the darkness. Now, 10 years later, Caine will return to that same role. In 2015, Caine was 82. He’s now 92. Is Caine too old to come back for another action movie with Diesel? Well, William Shatner went to space when he was 90, so Caine is probably still badass enough to do The Last Witch Hunter 2.

Michael Caine and Vin Diesel’s special bond
In his memoir released earlier this year, Caine noted that after he first met Diesel, he introduced the actor to others as “my son.” Because of Diesel’s passion and kindness, Caine had a bond with the younger actor “immediately.”
Clearly, that bond is still strong. But what Kaulder and the 36th Dolan get themselves into in the new Last Witch Hunter remains to be seen.
As of this writing, The Last Witch Hunter 2 does not yet have a release date. The film will be produced by One Race Films and Lionsgate.
