14-year-old arrested after ‘brutal’ attack video on an elderly concert usher goes viral

A 14-year-old has been arrested after violently attacking a 66-year-old arena worker during an NBA YoungBoy concert in Kansas City.

Thomas Schlange was working at the T-Mobile Center on Sunday night when he asked the teen to move to his assigned seat, according to Fox 4 News. Video footage from the concert has since gone viral, showing the teenager throw Schlange into a row of seats and repeatedly punch him, despite bystanders watching.

“I mean, it is serious; I went down and had blows to my head,” Schlange told Fox 4 News. “He was so enraged, so we were just, in essence, trying to protect the fans.”

After the attack, the teenager was arrested but released to his parents while authorities continued investigating. The Kansas City Police Department confirmed the suspect is under 16, and charges are pending.

Schlange, who has worked as an usher for nearly two decades, suffered non-life-threatening injuries but may face worsening eye problems due to pre-existing glaucoma. His family has set up a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses.

“We are devastated for the injustice of this person and other attendees that didn’t stop that guy at all,” Schlange’s grandson, Herber Lopez, said.

T-Mobile Center spokesperson Shani Tate Ross called the attack “horrific” and emphasized that it was an isolated incident that does not reflect the venue or city.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas also condemned the violence, urging the public to provide information to police. In response to the incident, the United Center in Chicago canceled a  NBA YoungBoy concert set to be held tonight.

Schlange urged young people to learn to control their anger, reflecting on the shocking experience: “The message is: We, as young adults or people growing into adulthood, we need to learn how to control our anger.”

NBA YoungBoy has not commented.
