For the second consecutive year, 1st Move International has analysed global relocation trends to uncover where people most want to relocate to in 2025.
Using Google search data from around the world, the 2025 Relocation Index reveals that interest in moving abroad remains strong, with familiar favourites continuing to lead the way.
Take a look…
Canada tops the Relocation Index again
Canada is once again the world’s most desirable relocation destination, with more than 269 000 annual searches for terms such as “moving to,” “living in,” and “emigrating to.”
Ranked first among 75 countries worldwide, Canada’s enduring appeal lies in its high quality of life, inclusive communities, and stunning natural scenery.
From the energy of Toronto to the coastal calm of Vancouver, the country continues to attract professionals, families, and adventurers alike.
Australia holds second place
Australia followed closely with 207 900 searches, reinforcing its reputation as a relocation hotspot. The nation’s sunny climate, robust economy, and relaxed lifestyle make it a top choice for movers looking for balance between work and leisure.
With world-class healthcare and education, Australia is particularly appealing to families, though rising living costs in major cities like Sydney and Melbourne remain a practical concern.
Ireland rises to third
Ireland climbed to third place on the index this year, overtaking New Zealand, with 179 400 global relocation searches. The country’s welcoming culture, expanding job market, and strong community ties continue to attract those seeking opportunity without losing a sense of home.
Proximity to the UK and a thriving tech and finance sector make Ireland a smart move for both career-driven migrants and those drawn to its charm and familiarity.
The top 10 countries people want to move to
Beyond the top three, the 2025 Relocation Index shows continued interest in both English-speaking and sun-soaked destinations. Here’s how the top ten lined up:
| Rank | Country | Annual Relocation Searches |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Canada | 269 220 |
| 2 | Australia | 207 900 |
| 3 | Ireland | 179 400 |
| 4 | New Zealand | 177 700 |
| 5 | Japan | 172 880 |
| 6 | Portugal | 170 030 |
| 7 | Costa Rica | 127 880 |
| 8 | Spain | 127 670 |
| 9 | Netherlands | 127 100 |
| 10 | Thailand | 126 960 |
The Relocation Index highlighted two clear motivations for relocation: lifestyle and language. English-speaking nations like Canada, Australia, and Ireland dominate the list, while sunny, laid-back destinations such as Portugal, Costa Rica, and Thailand show that weather and work-life balance are key drivers.
