The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, will pay tribute on Wednesday to the social democrat Aníbal Cavaco Silva, marking 40 years since his first inauguration as head of the executive, in 1985, his office announced this Saturday, November 1st.
The tribute session to Cavaco Silva will take place at 1pm on Wednesday, at the prime minister’s official residence, in São Bento“on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his inauguration as prime minister”, says a note released by the Montenegro cabinet.
In this session members of the current government will participate and interventions by Luís Montenegro and Cavaco Silva are planned.
About half an hour later The opening of a photographic exhibition by Rui Ochôa entitled “Aníbal Cavaco Silva: a decade in images – The Prime Minister who transformed Portugal” is scheduled to open.
This exhibition will be open to the public on weekends for a month at the Prime Minister’s official residence.
Aníbal Cavaco Silva was prime minister for 10 years, between 1985 and 1995, having won two absolute majorities in legislative elections.
Their governments included figures such as Luís Marques Mendes, Eduardo Catroga, Durão Barroso, Luís Mira Amaral, or Manuela Ferreira Leite.
Between 2006 and 2016 he served as President of the Republic.
