An 8-hour planned power outage will affect 17 areas in Johannesburg at Mayfair and John Ware Substation on Sunday, 2 November 2025.
The power utility explained that the power outage was necessary for maintenance work that needs to be done on their electricity network.
“The interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” said City Power.

The power outage will occur from 8:00 to 16:00 in these areas:
- Crown Number 1
- Amalgam North
- SABC 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
- Homestead Park
- Amalgam
- Stella RD
- Mayfair West
- Richmond-Vrededorp
- Brixton
- Mayfair North
- Vrede Park
- Crown/Amalgam
- Vorster
- Lillian Ngoyi
- Jennings and surrounding areas
- Malherbe
- Mahlathini
POWER SHUTDOWN IN VAAL DUE TO A STORM
A severe storm in the Vaal area has resulted in a power outage, leaving residents without electricity.
According to Eskom, the storm hit the power lines, causing them to drop.
“A truck later drove into one of the lines, resulting in damage to the windscreen of the truck. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained as the line had already been isolated,” mentioned Eskom.
Areas affected include De Deur, Emfuleni Local Municipality, Midvaal Municipality, Orkeville and Rust Ter Vaal.
