80s musician Aldo Nova has been forced to cancel his upcoming tour dates after fracturing his spine from falling down a flight of stairs.

The 68-year-old rock star, who also produced Celine Dion’s Falling Into You album, was days away from beginning his US tour.

He was due to perform in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 9 but his wife, Sylvia Bechard, announced on Facebook he was in no position to play.

‘Due to an unfortunate fall down a flight of stairs, Aldo has suffered a cervical spine fracture at the level of C1, which is a serious injury,’ she explained.

‘Fortunately, he does not need spinal surgery but has to wear a special neck brace for up to a year depending on his progress. I will keep you updated on a regular basis.’

A C1 spinal fracture can take, on average, around three months to heal if no surgery is needed, according to the NHS.

Aldo has not shared an update himself but Loudwire reports that his six upcoming gigs have been cancelled.

He was due to play across the US throughout July and August, then again in October, closing with a final November gig in Las Vegas.

Just last month, the Grammy winner posted about how excited he was to be working on the tour, sharing a snap with his dog, Roxy.

He wrote: ‘Me and my Yorkshire Terrier Roxy taking in some fresh before I lock myself away in the basement, working on the new set for our upcoming July shows where we’ll now be doing almost my complete 1st album, and, believe it or not 2 songs from my Twitch and Subject and of course Blood on Bricks albums.

‘See you out there on the road. If I’m in your town, come on out. You won’t regret it.’

Aldo’s self-titled debut album was released in 1982, and is certified two times platinum, peaking at number eight on the US Billboard chart and six in Canada at the time.

His song Fantasy climbed to number 23 on the Hot 100 and number three on the Rock chart, although it never broke through in the UK.

Over the years, Aldo has worked with numerous high-profile artists, including Jon Bon Jovi, writing the guitar riff for track Blaze of Glory.

In 1996, he received a Grammy Award as co-producer on Celine Dion’s album of the year Falling Into You and wrote tracks like You and I, Can’t Fight This Feelin’ and more for the singer.

He has released six studio albums, including Twitch and Subject…Aldo Nova, as well as three EPs and various compilation records.
