The head of the SEP explained that this new allocation scheme represents a structural change in access to Higher Secondary Educationby replacing the logic of competition and exclusion that was applied with the exam COMIPEMS for a model based on the right to education and equity, such as “My right, my place.”
Delgado Carrillo highlighted that the “My right, my place” platform guarantees that each high school graduate has a place in high school. He stressed that the objective is that no student is rejected, since the educational continuity of young people is a commitment of the president of Mexico.
68.4% of young people obtained a place in their first choice
He highlighted that, with the new digital registration platform, 68.4% of young people obtained a place in their first choicewhile, through the COMIPEMS selection exam, only 26.2% achieved it, thus eliminating the barriers that previously left out thousands of students each year.
He pointed out that one of the advantages of the new model is the assignment of places based on preferences and the proximity of the schools to the young people’s homes. This allows a more equitable distribution of tuitionreduces saturation in high-demand institutions and encourages young people to study close to their community, which favors school retention.
He explained that for the school cycle 2025–2026the SEP expanded the educational offer and strengthened the existing infrastructure to make possible the participation of more than 272 thousand applicants, in congruence with the policy of guaranteeing free and universal education in the country.
