Rejoice, cycling fans: the 27th annual 99er Cycle Tour is set to take place this Saturday, 7 February 2026.
The popular cycling race takes place at the Durbanville Sports Complex in Cape Town. Here, participants will take on one of four epic routes that wind through the picturesque winelands and farmlands.
As such, the event will affect and close several roads.
TAKE NOTE OF THESE ROAD CLOSURES
According to the race organisers’ website, they expect a large number of participating cyclists and vehicles. This will result in some traffic delays and congestion in certain areas located near the routes.
Organisers will have the following roads closed at designated times:
- Sport Way: 05:00 to 08:30.
- Koeberg Road, from Mosselbank River Avenue to Plein Street: 08:00 to 13:00.
- Adderley Road, from Philadelphia Road to Mosselbank River Avenue: 07:30 to 10:00.
CYCLING RACE WILL AFFECT OTHER ROADS, AREAS
Additionally, the 99er Cycle Tour will impact other roads and areas at certain times.
From 05:30 to 08:30, these will include:
- Roads: Sport Way, De Villiers Drive, Fairtrees Road, Lubbe Street, Langeberg Road, Wellington Road, Boland Way and Brackenfell Boulevard (Graanendal).
- Areas: Durmonte, Goedemoed, The Crest, Wellway Park and Uitzicht.
Take note of these affected roads and areas between 07:30 and 13:00 as well:
- Roads: Koeberg Road and Adderley Road.
- Areas: D’Urbanvale, Nerina, Natures Valley, Schoongezight, Ruitershoogte, Vierlanden, Proteaville, Bergsig, Wellway Park, Durbanville Centre, Malanshoogte, Spes Bona and Occultdale Roads.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR MOTORISTS
Again, delays and congestion are a certainty during the Cycle Tour.
For residents and motorists travelling through Durbanville and its surrounds, you are advised to allow for extra travel time and plan accordingly. This way, you can avoid arriving late at your destination or getting stressed out.
