Keith Urban was scheduled to perform in Greenville, South Carolina on Thursday night, but had to abruptly call off the show.
Urban is in the middle of his current tour, which will conclude next August and will feature stops in Europe in addition to concerts in the United States. The 57-year-old country singer will not play tonight due to a case of laryngitis.
The Bon Secours Wellness Arena, which was slated to host tonight’s show, announced the news earlier Thursday.
“Keith Urban has been advised by his longtime laryngologist Dr. Gaelyn Garrett, from the Vanderbilt Voice Center, to cancel his performance in Greenville, SC tonight at Bon Secours Wellness Arena due to laryngitis which began earlier this week,” the arena’s statement said. “He has been placed on complete vocal rest and Dr. Garrett is optimistic that he will be back onstage for his Nashville show (on Friday night).”
Any consumer who bought tickets to tonight’s show through TicketMaster will be refunded automatically, while those who purchased them through a third-party seller are asked to contact their point of purchase.
Urban sends message to fans
Knowing the disappointment his announcement would cause, Urban issued a quick message to fans and concertgoers Thursday.
“Hey Greenville, I’m so SO sorry to have to cancel the show ….I know all the logistics it takes to get to a concert these days and I’ve never taken any of that, or any of YOU for granted,” Urban said. “I’m looking forward to getting back there when we can!!!!!”
Urban’s next show is set for tomorrow night in Nashville.
A tough time for Urban
While the four-time Grammy winner is carrying on business as usual, Urban is dealing with his ongoing divorce from actress Nicole Kidman, his wife of nearly two decades and the mother of his two children.
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September, citing “irreconcilable differences.” According to reports, she listed the date of separation as Sept. 30, the day she filed to dissolve their marriage.
“It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now,” a source told PEOPLE. “People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable.”
