For 11 days, Santarém once again becomes the national capital of gastronomy

Casa do Campino, in Santarém, is once again the stage for the biggest gastronomy festival in the country. Until October 26th, the National Gastronomy Festival aims to highlight the event’s role in affirming the municipality as a tourist and gastronomic destination.

At the inaugural ceremony, the chef Nuno Diniz won the Armando Fernandes Prize, which aims to distinguish a personality or institution that has stood out for its contribution to the appreciation and growth of Portuguese gastronomy. Nuno Diniz had already received, in May this year, the Career Award, awarded by the Boa Cama Boa Mesa Guide, for all the contribution made to national gastronomy, while chavecook, trainer, promoter, author, columnist and consultant.

From the National Gastronomy Festival program, reference for the showcookingwith emphasis on Carnes da Montanha by Ó Balcão, from chef Rodrigo Castelo. Each day of the event is dedicated to a parish in Santarém, with musical exhibitions, tastings of endogenous products, and recreational activities.

On October 24th, Friday, at 7pm, the presentation of the European City of Wine 2026 will take place, which will be the responsibility of the Baixo Alentejo Intermunicipal Community.

The country is mirrored in the usual restaurant area of ​​the National Gastronomy Festival. From the Azores came the José do Rego restaurant, from Nazaré the Aleluia, and from Madeira, the Do dia p`Noite restaurant. You can also find the academic, from Bragança, O Costa from Vila Real Fumeiros da Zezinha, from Arouca. Temudus comes from Coimbra, Lampião from Alentejo, and the Leitão Monastery from Batalha. You can also find Zé do Pipo, from Idanha-a-Nova, O Torres from Vila Verde, Tentações da Montanha and Puttanesca from Leiria.

O Santarém National Gastronomy Festivalheld annually, brings together chefs renowned producers, local producers and gastronomy lovers, offering several typical dishes from various regions. Entrance costs €2.50 and can be purchased HERE. Doors open at 12pm and close at 1am.
