Creature, a sensory tour through the Australian forest

Stage entertainment and technology join forces to teach children and adults how to take care of the planet in the exhibition Creaturean interactive installation that invites reflection on everyday practices around the topic.

This montage proposes a sensory tour through the Australian forest, where visitors are surrounded by sounds, lights and projections that react to their movements.

The Australian company Box of Birds / Stalker Theater presents from today until October 21, in the Creation Laboratory of the Scenic Garden, its installation Creature, an immersive production suitable for both young people and adults, focused on the environment and the relationship between humans and it.

“We want to show that nature is not only in the mountains or distant parks, but also in ourselves and in our daily actions,” actress Sarahí Fonce explained in an interview with this medium.

Each step of the viewer transforms the environment: a spiral of particles becomes a kangaroo, crickets and frogs accompany the journey and even mosquitoes can become a friendly team.

“The screen is like a fourth actor, one more character that interacts with us and with the audience,” commented Fonce.

“Learning doesn’t always have to be from a classroom. Here you play, you learn and you reflect,” said the actress, who also highlighted that “although it is set in Australia, it is important to realize that the situations are almost the same on the other side of the world and that in both places you can take action in the same way.”

“Learning does not always have to be from a classroom. Here you play, learn and reflect,” says Fonce, who highlights the children’s reaction: “We were surprised to see how they themselves talked about reducing consumption or taking care of what we use every day.”

The proposal was conceived by David Clarkson, with tour direction and script by Margie Breen, and the participation of digital artists such as Andrew Johnston, Andrew Bluff, Boris Bagattini and Matt Hughes.

Since its premiere in 2016 at the Out of the Box Festival in Brisbane, Creature has toured stages in Australia, China and now Mexico, with an educational approach that seeks to raise ecological awareness through art and technology.

Creature will be available to the public for free at the Scenic Garden Scenic Creation Laboratory, at the Bosque Cultural Center.
