Van Dijk is concerned about Liverpool’s lackluster performance despite its huge spending sports

Liverpool, the English Premier League champion, is going through its first serious slump this season, after an ideal start during which it achieved 5 victories in 5 matches, a situation that worries its defender Virgil van Dijk.

Arne Sloat’s team has lost momentum since the 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace in the sixth round, which opened the wound, as the Reds suffered two more defeats: one in the Champions League against Galatasaray (1-0) and another in the Premier League against Chelsea (2-1).

These results cost them the loss of the lead, which is now in the hands of Arsenal, which has 16 points, one point behind the Anfield team.

An alarming situation

The newspaper “Marca” indicates that the situation appears worrying at Anfield, given the huge amounts of money spent this summer.

No club spent as much as Liverpool, as the value of its contracts exceeded 477 million euros to strengthen its ranks with stars such as Alexander Isak (145 million euros), Florian Wirtz (125 million euros), and Hugo Equitiki (95 million euros).

The club also included lesser-known players, but they also cost huge sums of money, including Milos Kerkez (4.9 million euros), Jeremy Frimpong (40 million euros) and Giovanni Leoni (30 million euros).

However, not everyone in the dressing room shares their enthusiasm for the new lineup. Captain Virgil van Dijk has made clear his belief that the current team is more fragile than previous seasons.

The Reds captain told Rich Sport: “I think the club has achieved a great performance in terms of new signings, but they are not real signings because we have clearly lost a lot of distinguished players who were important over the past few years.”

He added, “Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Garel Quansah, Harvey Elliott. We have sold a lot of outstanding players.”

Despite this, Van Dijk is confident in the possibility of changing the current situation that the team is going through, saying, “Now is the right time to work and build a very strong team on the field to compete in all the competitions in which we participate. This is our goal.”

The first test after this poor performance will be next Sunday evening against Manchester United at Anfield.
