US President Donald Trump said that “the way has become paved to end the war in Ukraine,” stressing that he has “great momentum after completing the deal in the Middle East thanks to the strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” in new statements in which he addressed the files of Ukraine, China, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Trump added in a press conference at the White House on Friday that he “intervened in the Ukrainian war to save hundreds of thousands of lives,” noting that he spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and that the communication was “good and constructive,” calling for a tripartite summit bringing together Russia, Ukraine, and the United States to “stop the war and end the suffering.”
Trump explained that he wants to “remove the hatred from the chests of the Russian and Ukrainian presidents,” and that “it is impossible to predict whether Ukraine will be able to regain all of its territory,” but he believes that the chance of reaching a real deal is very high.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in Washington today, Friday, and met Trump at the White House, said that they “began to understand each other,” adding that the American president had “a great opportunity to stop the war.” He confirmed that he asked Washington to provide his country with Tomahawk missiles to support the Ukrainian army.
Trump responded that he “wishes the war would end without the need for these missiles,” noting that “providing Ukraine with them is not an easy matter and may lead to escalation,” but he stressed that his country “possesses a sufficient stock of drones and Tomahawk missiles.”
India and China
In other files, Trump said that India will soon stop buying Russian oil, noting that he discussed this with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and added that Hungary is facing difficulty in giving up Russian oil.
Regarding relations with China, Trump confirmed that the planned meeting with President Xi Jinping would go ahead, praising the good relations between the two countries. He said, “We are in a very strong position and a deal can be reached with China, and customs duties have strengthened our national security.”
Trump revealed that US forces bombed a submarine loaded with drugs off the coast of Venezuela, stressing that his country is “carrying out military operations in the Caribbean to combat drug traffickers,” in reference to the expansion of the US security campaign in the region.
Trump concluded that he “ended eight wars and did not win the Nobel Peace Prize,” pledging to continue his efforts to “stop conflicts” in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, adding: “This may be the ninth Ukrainian war that I will end.”
