We like life and we have come to tell it

Things I like about EL ESPAÑOL: everything, almost everything. It has been my home for ten years. As with homes, you no longer know if the house has changed you more or you have changed it. What do I know, we are the same. We started out as little and brave and now we are leaders: It is an honorable path.

Sometimes we are still David against Goliath (crazy, passionate and somewhat reckless journalists in the face of the ecumenical monster of the Internet, or political interests, or a changing business that makes us fragile), but We always end up throwing stones with the slingshot. I trust that we clever guys will continue to defeat the brute force of an increasingly complex world and with more sophisticated tricks against information, analysis and ideas.

Spain has changed a lot in these ten years and so have we: I think that is a virtue of the head, being a living organism, growing with people, aging in wisdom and revitalizing itself almost simultaneously.

I am a fan of time and its benefits. I feel that We have gained rhythm, strength, personality. We distinguish ourselves from other media. We have shown that we are not passing through, that we never were.

I think we are a pretty punk house. I think soWe are rigorous, fierce and fun. I think we are demanding of ourselves. I think we worked our brains out to do our best. I think we are original, fresh and educational. I think we kill ourselves in our approach, that we don’t take anything for granted, that we don’t repeat platitudes. I think we want to think more and better.

I believe that we accompany readers in their lives, and I believe that that is the ultimate mission of a newspaper. We are at the service of our own. We want to give citizens tools to live more intensely, with more awareness, with more freedom, with more critical capacity. We know that our readers are very intelligent and we want to be at their level. We work on it every day.

Nor have we ever stopped being an intellectual artifact. We have not stopped being aware of what a newspaper means in a democracy. And even less so when it is increasingly less open, less guaranteeing, more tense.

We love the debate. We can, in fact. It excites us. We are plural only existing, And each one of us belongs to our father and our mother and at the same time our own, as they say in my land. An example: we have an opinion section in which Cristian Campos and myself fit, and in which we both read each other with interest from the point of view of dissent.

I like that so many powerful people dislike us: that’s always a compliment. I like that we shoot in so many directions.

I like to read Maria Peral already bow tie in Courts. With Brais Cedeira I even found out about the Interior. I feel more awake. I like that the section High put female talent at the center. I like Luxury and even the Royal House! if you tell it to me with so much class Raul Rodriguez. I like Science that makes it interesting and digestible José Andrés Gómez. I like to drink coffee with The Cultural in my hand since I was a teenager: I like their covers more and more.

I like our long and varied talks with brilliant Spaniards who summarize the country and their office and bar conversations. I like that we listen horizontally to all kinds of characters and that we are not police dogs. I think we would interview the greatest of the villains, I think it would be unpopular and I think we would do it because we have come willing to understand everything, not defend everything.

We like life and we come to tell it.
