A video clip circulating on social media showed an Israeli settler violently assaulting an elderly Palestinian woman while she was picking olives east of the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, causing her to lose consciousness.

The clip shows a masked settler carrying a stick, attacking the woman and repeatedly hitting her on the head until she fell to the ground, before assaulting two foreign solidarity activists between the olive trees.

Awad Abu Samra, an eyewitness and activist in the popular committees in the town of Turmus Ayya, said that the event occurred in the eastern region of the town.

He added that the settlers attacked them while they were picking olives and chased them, but a woman was a little late, so the settler attacked her with a stick and hit her on the head until she fainted. Then he continued to attack two solidarity activists in the same place, causing one of them to break his hand.

He explained that the injured person, Afaf Saleh Abu Alia, in her fifties, was transferred to the Istishari Hospital in Ramallah to receive treatment, describing her condition as “stable.”

In turn, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, denounced the incident, and said in a post on her account on the X platform, “For two years, the world has been watching scenes like this from the West Bank.”

Settlers’ attacks in the West Bank increased significantly with the advent of the olive harvest season, which falls at the beginning of the second third of this October.

According to data from the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority, settlers carried out 7,154 attacks against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank in the years of the genocide, causing the death of 33 citizens, the displacement of 33 Palestinian Bedouin communities, and the establishment of 114 settlement outposts.

Since the start of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks in the West Bank have escalated, leaving at least 1,56 Palestinian martyrs and about 10,000 injured, in addition to the arrest of more than 20,000, including 1,600 children.
