The IPN of the Culhuacán ESIME is olived

The Higher School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of the IPN, Culhuacán campus, has been taken over for three weeks by a group of young people who removed the directors and prevented the rest of the students from entering to take classes, first, under the claim of lack of support for a foreign practice; but the demand was distorted and now the director’s resignation is requested.

The origin was a field practice in Veracruz, where the school bus failed and the students stayed the night and part of the morning on a road known for its insecurity. According to stories from students, after asking for help, they sent them a van that was able to reach the area where the students were, until dawn, because it got stuck and the driver arrived walking to ask for help.

That was the case that triggered the discontent of the students, who went out to block the streets to demand more resources and greater security on campus, since it is located in a conflictive area and assaults have been recorded in the surrounding area, mainly on students who go out at night.

The disagreement was taken advantage of by the most radical faction that ignored the authorities and the student advisors, as well as the subsequent consultations or attempts to reestablish dialogue by the student community.

ESIME Culhuacán is located on the borders of Iztapalapa and Coyoacán. The students claim that after the takeover of the campus, they have not observed a response from the authorities. Miles away, the General Director, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, seems not to take any importance from this protest, which, in essence, has a complaint related to the limited resources given to this peripheral school. At this point, the director Dalia Ruiz Domínguez has lost control of the school, since the most radical group wants her to resign.

The seizure of the facilities has stopped the construction of an athletics track; The company that made it left material and equipment inside the school and due to the impossibility of continuing, the ESIME will be subject to a fine, which could lead to the suspension of the work.

At this point a doubt arises. With current technology, it is not possible to carry out distance classes or mandatory consultations? Because while dozens of students have come to speak with the young people who took the higher school of engineering, the authorities and academics have been conspicuous by their absence. The stridency of a group has prevailed over the arguments that the students who are fighting for a return to school have tried to present.
