During the Buen Fin, thousands of consumers take advantage of the offers without measuring the impact they will have on their personal finances.
According to Violeta Corona Cabrera, research professor at the Universidad Panamericana in the Marketing Academy, between 80 and 90 percent of purchasing decisions are not fully conscious, which explains why many people end up purchasing unnecessary items.
On the other hand, he warns that fashionable or rapidly depreciating items, such as gadgets or video game consoles, are usually impulsive purchases that generate temporary satisfaction and can unbalance the family budget.
To make smarter decisions, the academic suggests preparing a prior list of planned purchases and comparing prices before and during the Buen Fin.
It also recommends using the digital tools offered by the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) to verify if the offers are real.
Finally, the specialist emphasized that buying with purpose does not mean giving up the pleasure of acquiring something, but doing so in an informed and planned way.
