Dozens of websites and applications, including Google, Prime Video, Lloyds Bank and Spanpchat, were left offline on Monday morning, at 8am in mainland Portugal, due to failures in Amazon Web Services (AWS), the true “heart of Amazon”, as the newspaper El País writes. This is the global service complex that supports more than 200 global data centers and provides the basis for a significant part of the Internet, providing customers with access to servers, databases and storage, without the need to build their own infrastructure.
The latest information from AWS on the issue says that it is being resolved and many services are returning to normal. online: “We have applied some initial mitigation measures and are seeing the first signs of recovery for some affected services. During this period, requests may continue to fail as we work towards a complete resolution”, say AWS, which continues to “monitor the issue” and promises updates in the coming hours.
