“Petro is a lunatic”: Trump
During a meeting with the press before boarding Air Force One, the President of the United States redoubled his disqualifications of the Colombian leader.
“Colombia is out of control and now they have the worst President they have ever had. He is a lunatic with many problems, mental problems,” Trump declared yesterday.
The US president stated that “Colombia is a drug manufacturing machine and we are not going to be part of that. So we are going to stop giving them all the money we give them. […] The fields are full of drugs, they refine them; They produce enormous quantities of cocaine, and they send it all over the world and destroy families,” he said.
Trump confirms tariffs against Colombia
Trump has just announced new tariffs for Colombia. The blackmail to which they want to subject Colombians is unacceptable. Beyond political differences, this cannot be allowed, nor the use of labels such as “drug trafficker” against the president… pic.twitter.com/2vQrWgii6O

In the same exchange with the press, Trump was questioned by a publication by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who claimed to have had “a very positive conversation” with the US President about his “commitment to persecute those countries that support drug trafficking” against his “great nation.”
“I read Senator Graham’s statement and it is correct. I was with him today, we were working today,” the magnate responded, and announced that it will be this Monday when he formally announces the tariffs he plans to impose on Colombia.
The US president also reiterated that he will suspend all forms of payments or subsidies to the country governed by Petro, whom he accuses of “collusion with drug trafficking.”
The relationship between Bogotá and Washington has been strained in recent weeks, after the attacks ordered by the Trump Administration against alleged “drug boats” in the Caribbean, an action that left a fisherman dead and that President Petro considered a violation of national sovereignty.
