Khamenei: Trump is “delusional” in believing that he destroyed our nuclear facilities news

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Monday that US President Donald Trump was delusional in his belief that he had destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities with strikes launched by his country last June.

Khamenei said – during his meeting with Iranian athletes – “The American president is bragging: We bombed the Iranian nuclear industry and destroyed it. Well, live this illusion!”, according to what was reported on his website.

The Iranian guide asked, “What does it matter to America if Iran has a nuclear industry?”

Addressing Trump, he added, “Who are you to say that a country should or should not have nuclear energy?”

On June 22, the United States bombed the Fordow underground uranium enrichment site south of Tehran, in addition to nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz in the center of the country, in the midst of a 12-day war between Iran and Israel.

The exact damage toll is not yet known, but the US President has been repeating for months that these sites were “completely destroyed.”

“We dropped 14 bombs on major nuclear facilities. As I said from the beginning, they were completely destroyed, and that has been confirmed,” Trump said in a speech to the Israeli Knesset last week.

He added – in an interview broadcast on Fox News on Sunday – “When we destroyed their nuclear capabilities, they stopped acting recklessly in the Middle East.”

Iran and the United States severed their diplomatic relations after the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and the taking of American employees hostage at the American embassy in Tehran. Since then, hostility has prevailed between the two countries.

Last April, Tehran and Washington began indirect negotiations, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman, regarding the Iranian nuclear program, but they stopped after Israel launched a surprise attack on June 13 against Iran, sparking a war that lasted 12 days, in which the United States participated alongside Israel.

During the war, Israel carried out hundreds of strikes against nuclear and military sites in Iran, and assassinated a number of scientists linked to its nuclear program, while Tehran responded by launching missiles and drones at several Israeli areas.

Israel, along with Western countries, accuses Tehran of seeking to possess a nuclear weapon, which the latter denies, stressing that its nuclear program is intended for purely civilian purposes.
