MÉRIDA, Yucatán.— This Monday morning, the weekly press conference offered by the mayor of Merida, Cecilia Patron Laviada.
On this occasion, the municipal president reported that they are “orchestrating” a campaign aimed at the street packs. Tentatively, it would be next month when this initiative is presented and carried out.
The first mayor mentioned that, for now, they are in the supply stage of the necessary inputs to carry out said project, in which they plan to carry out around 150 sterilizationsand they intend for it to take place in a central location.
Reports of animal abuse are increasing
On the subject of animal abuseCecilia Patrón reaffirmed her commitment in favor of animals: “We have to ensure that it is not punishment, we have to prevent more animal violence; that is what we want: that not one more animal be violated.”
Regarding the role of the Animal Protection Unit (UPA) of Merida City Councilmentioned that the complaints of animal abuse have been increasing, to the point that they have had to implement an extra shift to be able to attend to them.
“Illuminated Mérida” Program

In her message, the mayor presented the “Illuminated Mérida” programthrough which he highlighted that better lighting provides security to the meridanscontributes to the reduction of electricity consumption and gives a new shine to the city. He reported that, so far, they have installed 39 thousand LED lights that replace sodium vapor ones. In addition, he explained that the new lamps are being prepared for apply remote managementa tool that will allow you to detect which ones are turned off or broken.
It was announced that 186 neighborhoods and 31 police stations will benefit from this program. The mayor explained that two models of lamps are being installed: larger ones for the avenues and smaller ones for the streets. Among the benefits obtained, economic savings stood out.
Among the neighborhoods and subdivisions that will soon benefit are Avenida 58 in Ciudad Caucel, the Díaz Ordaz neighborhood, Juan Pablo, Los Almendros, Residencial Pensiones, Temozón, Francisco de Montejo, among others.
