‘Prison Break’ Reboot Series Ordered at Hulu

Prison Break fans will get to dive back into the drama of the crime series that originally aired on Fox in 2005. According to Variety, Hulu has officially greenlit a reboot series of Prison Break from Elgin James.

The reboot was originally announced in December 2024 with a pilot order. Die-hard fans of the series are in for a new storyline as the reboot will take place within the Prison Break universe, but following a new set of characters.

Actor Emily Browning was reported to lead the new series as a character named Cassidy. She’s joined by Drake Rodger as Tommy, Lukas Gage as Jackson, Clayton Cardenas as Michael a.k.a “Ghost,” JR Bourne as Junior, Georgie Flores as Andrea, and Myles Bullock as Darius a.k.a “Red.”

“An ex-soldier turned corrections officer (Browning) takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America to prove just how far she’ll go for someone she loves,” reads the official logline for the reboot.

Fans can hopefully expect a similar formula with James serving as the series writer, showrunner, and executive producer. He’s also tagged on as directing the pilot. Joining James is Dawn Olmstead as an executive producer, along with Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz.

There are no details on whether the original cast will make cameo appearances, especially original actors Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield and Dominic Purcell as Lincoln Burrows. In 2020, Miller announced he has no plans ot return to the series, or “play straight characters” as their “stories have been told (and told).”

Prison Break ran for four seasons from 2005 until until 2009, before releasing a TV film that same year. The series returned for one final season in 2017.

Details on when filming starts or a release date for the Prison Break reboot have not been revealed.
