An investigation of Latin revealed that a company linked to the close circle of Andrés Manuel López Beltránson of the former president Andrés Manuel López Obradorreceived contracts for more than 23 million pesos of Claudia Sheinbaum’s government for the supply of medicines, despite not having fully delivered the order.
According to the documents obtained by said means, the company Biosystems and Private Security SA de CV It benefited from two direct awards totaling around 23 million pesos, as part of a mega purchase of drugs made during Sheinbaum’s management in Mexico City. The contracts established the delivery of more than 280 thousand pieces of medicines destined mainly to the IMSS.
However, the report indicates that the company had failed to deliver at least 25 thousand pieces that should have been supplied since last June. Pending products include sensitive drugs such as insulin, anticoagulants, oncology medications and dobutaminethe latter subject to previous health alerts issued by Cofepris due to irregularities in its quality.
The case has revived criticism of the so-called “Clan of Andy López Beltrán“, a group of businessmen and political operators supposedly benefited by their closeness to the president’s son. Among them stands out Amílcar Olana friend of López Beltrán, who has been linked to tenders in the health sector and with alleged irregularities within the IMSS-Bienestar program.
Despite the allegations, the Biosystems company does not appear on the lists of banned or sanctioned pharmaceutical companies that have been presented at the federal government’s morning conferences, which has raised questions about alleged preferential treatment. So far, there is no official confirmation of sanctions or open investigations against him.
Asked about similar issues in previous months, President Claudia Sheinbaum disqualified the complaints involving López Beltrán, describing them as “pure politicking” and pointing out that it is up to the competent authorities to determine whether there are legal responsibilities.
The case joins a series of reports that point to possible conflicts of interest and use of influence in the distribution of medicines, a sector that has been the subject of multiple complaints since the beginning of the current federal government.
The Clan of Andy López Beltrán was awarded a contract of 23 million pesos that was paid by the government of Claudia Sheinbaum.
They sold medicines that they have not delivered, but they do not appear on the black list of pharmaceutical companies that exhibit in the morning.
