Warning against the assassination of a Hamas leader inside Israeli prisons news

A Palestinian human rights center warned of a “slow assassination” of the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Muhammad Jamal al-Natsheh, as a result of medical negligence and torture in Israeli occupation prisons.

The Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies said in a statement yesterday, Monday, that the occupation authorities “deliberately neglected the treatment of prisoner Natsheh (72 years old) and transferred him between prisons despite his deteriorating health condition.”

The Center for Human Rights indicated that prisoner Natsheh suffers from memory loss and difficulty concentrating, which recently required his transfer to Ramla Hospital in central Israel.

The center added that the occupation “practiced the most horrific types of torture against Al-Natsheh since his last arrest last March, despite his advanced age and his suffering from several chronic diseases.”

He considered that what the Palestinian leader was being subjected to “constitutes a systematic assassination through deliberate medical negligence.”

The center explained that Al-Natsheh, one of the most prominent leaders of the movement in the city of Hebron and a former member of the Palestinian Legislative Council elected in 2006, was arrested dozens of times and spent about 23 years in occupation prisons, most of them in administrative detention without charge.

Demand urgent action

Israel uses what is known as “Administrative detention“, a law dating back to the British era that allows Palestinians to be detained without trial based on what the security services describe as secret files, for periods ranging from 3 to 6 months, renewable indefinitely.

The Center held the occupation authorities and the Prison Service administration “fully responsible for the life of prisoner Natsheh,” and called for urgent intervention from international human rights institutions to pressure Israel to release him and save his life.

For its part, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Information Center called on the International Committee of the Red Cross and all human rights institutions to take urgent action to save Natsheh’s life and provide him with the necessary medical care. He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and stop the slow execution policy practiced by the occupation authorities against Palestinian prisoners.

During the past two years, Israel arrested about 20,000 Palestinians, including 1,600 children and 595 women, according to a statement by Palestinian institutions concerned with following up on prisoners’ affairs.

Official Palestinian statistics indicate that the number of prisoners and detainees in Israeli occupation prisons until the beginning of October 2025 exceeded 11,100 detainees, without counting Gaza prisoners detained in Israeli military camps.
