Yelp recently unveiled a series of AI-powered updates that could revolutionize the way users get information about restaurants, bars and local businesses. One of the most notable innovations is the AI assistant’s ability to scan physical menus and provide information about the dishes listed on them. This feature could be particularly useful for people who are at a new restaurant and want to learn more about the food on offer without having to ask the staff.
In addition to this feature, Yelp has improved its search functionality by now supporting natural language question typing and voice commands. This means that users are no longer limited to keyword-like input, but can formulate their queries in a more natural, conversational tone. This development reflects the trend seen by other major technology companies such as Google, which have expanded their search and mapping services to include similar functions.
Another highlight of the new features is the ability to highlight not only popular dishes and drinks, but also desserts on restaurant and bar pages. AI-powered voice agents for restaurants and service businesses introduced earlier this year are also now available. For professional services companies, the AI receptionist can collect project details, qualify prospects, and send conversation summaries to the company’s Yelp inbox. Other companies like Square and Kea also offer AI-powered voice solutions for restaurants and order management.
With this fall update, Yelp is also introducing several additional features: AI-generated videos that compile user photos and tell information about restaurants and bars; extended video uploads (from 10 to 30 seconds); a new visual summary of restaurants and bars with photos and videos; grouped before and after photos for service businesses; and a new area for planning future projects.
