Mexico City, October 21 (However).- The Tribunal Superior from Bogota This Tuesday he acquitted former president of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe Velez (2002-2010), of the condemn for the crime of bribery in performance penalimposed last August in first instance.
During the reading of the sentence, Judge Manuel Antonio Merchán Gutiérrez announced: “The court revokes the conviction as a determination of bribery and acquits him for this conduct.”
According to the Court, the Attorney General’s Office was unable to prove that Uribe had ordered or promoted payments to former paramilitaries to change their testimonies.
The magistrates are still reviewing five other acts for which he was accused: three for bribing witnesses and two for procedural fraud. That is, this Tuesday’s decision only applies to the charge of bribery. It is expected that in the next few hours there will be a resolution on the other allegations.
