HIDALGO.- Miguel Bahena Solorzanomunicipal president of PisafloresHidalgo, was murdered Monday nightreported the Green Environmental Party of Mexico (PVEM), in which the official was active.
“The National Executive Committee of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico expresses its deepest dismay and strongly condemns the cowardly murder of Miguel Bahena Solórzano, municipal president in Pisaflores, Hidalgo; member of this political institute and very dear friend,” the PVEM said in a statement.
According to local media reports The Hidalgo DayBahena Solórzano, 47, received at least five gunshot wounds when two men, aboard a white motorcycle, shot him and fled the scene.
PVEM condemns murder of mayor of Pisaflores, Hidalgo
The party, related to Morena, demanded from the authorities an “immediate, exhaustive and transparent” investigation to find those responsible for the crime.
The PVEM expressed its solidarity with the family, friends and collaborators of the mayor, as well as with the population of Pisaflores, a municipality located in the northern region of Hidalgo, bordering Veracruz, where acts of violence have been recorded in recent months.
“We raise our voices to demand justice“, the institution stressed, while reiterating its commitment “to peace, legality and the protection of those who exercise public functions at the service of citizens.”
He also asked not to allow “violence to continue to undermine democracy and the security of communities.” And he urged the federal and state governments to guarantee the safety of municipal officials.
The murder of Bahena Solórzano adds to a series of attacks against local authorities occurred in different states of Mexico in 2024 and 2025, in a context of worsening political violence.
The national leadership of the PVEM warned that these types of events “not only take lives, but also hit the democratic fabric and generate fear among those who seek to serve their communities.”
The Hidalgo authorities have not yet offered official information about the attack or the possible motives for the crime.
Murders in Mexico
According to the Mexican Government, in the first year of Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, homicides in the country fell by 32%.
The daily average of murders decreased to 59.5 in September 2025 compared to 86.9 in September 2024, the last month of the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), which implies 27 fewer homicides per day.
