Google has introduced a new feature in Android that allows users to change the order of navigation buttons on their Pixel devices. This development aims to make the transition easier for users coming from Samsung devices, as Samsung uses a different button arrangement. While Samsung users have the option to adapt the order of the buttons to the standard Android arrangement, this was previously not possible the other way around.
The new feature is available in the latest Android Canary version and is expected to be rolled out to the general public in the Android 16 QPR3 release. This customization allows users to choose between the standard “Back, Home, Recent” arrangement and the Samsung-typical “Recent, Home, Back” arrangement. This flexibility could make the transition easier for users who want to switch from Samsung to Pixel without having to change their usual operations.
The introduction of this feature is part of Google’s efforts to improve the usability and customization of Android. In addition to the new navigation option, a new brightness control for the flashlight is also expected in the upcoming update. These adjustments demonstrate Google’s commitment to responding to user feedback and continually improving the usability of Android devices.
While the feature is currently only available in the Canary version, it is expected to be integrated into the beta and eventually the stable version of Android in the coming months. This shows Google’s strategy of testing new features in smaller user groups before making them available to a wider audience. This approach makes it possible to identify and correct potential problems at an early stage.
