Two agents have already been assigned to Sarkozy’s prison security by decision of the Ministry of the Interior, as confirmed by Nuñez in an interview on Europe 1 and CNEWS, thus confirming information published by TF1-LCI about this decision, taken jointly with the head of Justice, Gérald Darmanin.

“It is a decision aimed at guaranteeing their safety,” explained Nuñez, confirming that these two agents of the Protection Service (SDLP) will be in the cell next to the former president’s 24-hour security team.

He also highlighted that Sarkozy benefits from a protection system, given his status as former president and the threats that weigh on him. He has also made it clear that this protection will be maintained as long as “necessary.”

The former head of state has already fulfilled his first 24 hours in prison to serve a five-year sentence for illegally financing the campaign that brought him to the Elysée in 2007 with money from the eccentric Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

He will spend most of his time, at least 21 hours a day, in one of the 15 cells that make up the La Santé isolation zone. Sarkozy is the first former president of the French Republic to be imprisoned. He dedicated his first day in La Santé to his installation in prison, held meetings with his lawyers and “has started writing”, as confirmed last night by one of his lawyers, Jean-Michel Darrois, who emphasized that his client “will do everything possible to prove his innocence” in the appeal trial scheduled for March 2026.
