Emmerdale fans have been left in shock after learning of an upcoming spoiler involving Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
At the start of this week, Robert’s secret husband Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) arrived in the village. He had been released from prison, and was moving into the Anderson household as part of an outreach project.
Kev was really looking forward to living near his partner, but the same couldn’t have been said for Robert. Prior to us meeting Kev, Robert had reunited with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), and failed to tell them both about each other.
Before this week ends, Aaron will discover Robert’s betrayal when he sees him kissing Kev outside the pub. As he reels from this, things will get even worse for Aaron as he learns Robert has told Kev about his abusive biological father Gordon.
Gordon Livesy was responsible for sexually abusing Aaron when he was a child. In 2016, Gordon ended his life while in prison, which Aaron sees as ‘taking the cowards way out’.
Aaron has only shared this deeply traumatic event in his life with a few people very close to him, Robert being one of them. The fact that he told this information to Kev while he was in prison has left Emmerdale fans pretty stunned.
Taking to social media platform X, audience members had a lot to say about the upcoming development.
‘Wtf Robert, Kev did not need to know about Gordon!!’, this user said.
Zoe wondered: ‘What would possess Robert to tell Kev about Gordon.’
Amid the shock, some fans remain hopeful that Robert didn’t disrespect Aaron and tell Kev this secret so casually.
Ashleigh stated: ‘Robert wouldn’t just tell Kev about Gordon if it wasn’t within context to something that probably happened inside.’
Another echoed this theory and said: ‘I know we don’t know the details. But I can’t see Robert casually talking about Gordon for no good reason. I’m not gonna worry about it, no point in counting the chickens before the eggs all hatch.’
Reflecting on Kev’s journey so far, star Chris Coghill recently told us more about how his character feels about Robert.
‘It’s complicated, isn’t it? Kev is unhinged. There are genuine feelings there, but they’re not quite what they should be. He’s an incredibly dangerous person. Kev wouldn’t have any qualms about physically attacking anybody, apart from possibly Robert.’
Co-star Ryan added: ‘I think it’s unclear at this stage as to what his feelings are. There’s this guy that turns up and says he’s his husband, but Robert is actively trying to pursue Aaron. So I guess that’s the dilemma, isn’t it? Who is this guy that he’s married to and what’s the history there.
‘Kev loves him and there’s quite a complicated relationship. They’re lovers, they’re married, they’re husband and husband.
‘They both love each other but it’s kind of to what degree does Robert love Kev and what degree does he love Aaron?’.
Revealing more about what happens next when Aaron sees Robert kissing Kev, Ryan said: ‘It’s going to be explosive. Aaron thinks he and Robert are on the path that they both think they were always intended to be on, all the drama’s behind them, there’s no John any more and they can carry on their lives as they both hope and plan to do.
‘Then out of nowhere there’s this guy who turns up and he’s his old cell mate, and the next thing he sees is them kissing round the back of the Woolpack.
‘So not only has he been lied to after everything else that’s happened, Robert’s half brother has also lied to him, so it’s a lot for Aaron to take in I would imagine.’
