The latest survey from Geotab, a leading provider of connected vehicle solutions, has provided interesting insights into the attitudes of European professional drivers towards the use of AI technologies in the cab. The study shows that 87% of drivers are willing to use AI-powered audio coaching based on in-cab video analysis. This willingness contrasts with the concerns many drivers have about privacy.
A central theme of the survey is the tension between privacy and security. While 92% of respondents express concerns about the use of in-cab cameras, just as many are willing to overcome these concerns if the footage can prove their innocence in accidents. These results make it clear that drivers are not fundamentally against technology, but rather are weighing its benefits against potential risks.
The survey also uncovers an education gap that fleet managers must address. Many drivers fear that video footage could be taken out of context or used against them. These concerns highlight the need to better educate drivers about the use and benefits of video technologies to build trust and increase adoption.
Given the shortage of drivers and increasing operational pressures, the use of technology to support drivers is becoming increasingly important. AI coaching and the ability to exonerate drivers through evidence are crucial factors for drivers’ professional development and well-being. The survey confirms previous research showing that a majority of drivers support technology to improve performance.
