Stormers thrilled about Cobus Reinach factor

Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach has provided the Stormers with a much-needed boost ahead of their match against the Italian club, Benetton.

The Capetonians are one of three franchises that boast an unbeaten run in this year’s United Rugby Championship alongside Munster and Ulster.

After enjoying a well-deserved break in Cape Town, Reinach has now joined his new teammates abroad to help ensure that they maintain their unbeaten run.

Reinach’s experience will be valuable

Speaking from Treviso, the Stormers forwards coach Rito Hlungwani said that he was chuffed with what he saw from the 35-year-old this week. With stints at Northampton Saints and Montpellier, the rapid scrum-half boasts a wealth of experience playing in European conditions. Rito believes having the Springbok in the squad will amplify their momentum.

“No team will ever complain when you add that kind of experience,” he says. “It’s really helpful for us and great to have him around.”

“He’s still learning a few of the things we do differently, but a player of his calibre adapts quickly. We’re very happy to have him here.”

Partnership with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu

With one week to go until the Boks return to face Japan at Wembley Stadium, the chances of him making his debut this weekend seem likely.

Should this happen, establishing chemistry with his flyhalf would be the least of his concerns.

Cobus Reinach has played halfback to the talented Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu for a large part of the 2020 Rugby Championship season. Together, they have proven to provide a perfect display of attack and game control, with a notable standout performance being their match against Argentina.

Meanwhile, scrumhalf Imad Khan would be in the perfect position to learn from the double World Cup winner.

The match kicks off this Saturday at the Stadio Monigo Stadium at 18:30.
