Although the primary sector grew more than 15 percent annually, the decline in industrial activities and some services limited economic progress.
Mexico City, October 22 (However).- The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) published this Wednesday the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (GAE) corresponding to August 2025. With seasonally adjusted figures, the indicator registered a monthly increase of 0.6 percent, although it did not present an annual variation compared to the same month of 2024, which suggests that growth remains limited.
According to him report shared by him Institutethe boost came mainly from the agricultural sector, while the industry continues to decline and services remain stable.
The president of Inegi, Graciela Márquez Colín, shared the data through her official account on X, where she highlighted the boost in the primary sector and stability in services. In his message, he specified that the IGAE presented a monthly variation of 0.6 percent and an annual variation of 0.0 percent.

By economic activity groups, the behavior was uneven:
Primary activities (agriculture and livestock) had the greatest progress: they grew 14.5 percent monthly and 15.3 percent annually, thanks to the good performance of agriculture, which grew 26.5 percent annually, making the countryside the main economic engine of the month.
Secondary activities (industry, manufacturing and construction) showed signs of weakness, falling 0.3 percent monthly and 2.7 percent annually, with declines in mining (-7.0 percent), construction (-3.2 percent) and manufacturing industries (-1.7 percent). In original figures, this group accumulates an annual decline of 3.6 percent, which confirms a persistent slowdown.
In August 2025, and with seasonally adjusted figures, the Global Economic Activity Indicator #IGAE presented the following variations:
0.6% monthly
0.0% annually

Tertiary activities (trade and services) had moderate progress with a slight increase of 0.5 percent monthly and 0.8 percent annually, with good results in retail trade (6.4 percent annually), professional services (7.8 percent) and business support services (12.2 percent). However, some subsectors such as accommodation and food (-3.3 percent), and government services (-2.7 percent) recorded declines.
In original figures, the IGAE fell 0.9 percent annually and accumulates a decrease of 0.1 percent compared to the period from January to August 2024. Although the boost in the field helped offset the general performance, lags in the industry and some services continue to limit growth.
The monthly variation graph shows that the IGAE has had important changes in the last two years, with strong falls in 2023, and a progressive recovery in 2024 and 2025.
