“Brother Wang”, fugitive Chinese boss, is recaptured in Cuba

After escaping through a tunnel from his home in Tlalpan, the Chinese fentanyl kingpin managed to reach Cuba with a false identity.

Mexico City, October 22 (However).- Zhi Dong Zhangbetter known as “Brother Wang“, the alleged capo of the fentanyl that last July he escaped from his house arrest in the Mexico City (CdMx) while facing a trial of extraditionwas recaptured in Cuba-

According to sources from the Security Cabinet, his arrest was officially notified to Mexico by the Cuban authorities through diplomatic channels. Zhang had entered the island under a false identity and was arrested a few weeks ago.

Zhang had been apprehended on October 31, 2024, in the vicinity of Santa Fe, Cuajimalpa Mayor’s Office, at the request of the United States Department of Justice, which accuses him of criminal association, importation and international distribution of cocaine, fentanyl trafficking and money laundering.

The Federal Court of the Northern District of Atlanta, Georgia, had issued an arrest warrant against him since 2022, indicating him as responsible for the export, transportation and distribution of more than a thousand kilos of cocaine, 1,800 kilos of fentanyl and more than 600 kilos of methamphetamines, in addition to handling more than 150 million dollars annually in profits derived from drug trafficking.

Intelligence work by the Federal Forces indicates that Zhang’s illicit operations extended throughout the United States, Central America, South America, Europe, China and Japan, and that he maintained alliances with the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

During his extradition process, a federal judge granted him house arrest for health reasons, under the protection of the National Guard, in a home located in the Lomas de Padierna neighborhood, in the Tlalpan Mayor’s Office.

However, on the morning of July 11, 2025, the alleged boss escaped through a tunnel built in the house, in an escape that revealed flaws in the surveillance system and led to a national and international operation.

The alleged criminal operator used multiple identities, including Li Gong Sun Chang, Ku Li Hernández, Brother Wang, BW, Pancho, Heh, Chino and Summor Ownor.
