The State of Mexico was once again stained with blood with the murder of two women in less than 24 hours. Both crimes, which occurred in different municipalities, share the same mark: violence carried out within the most intimate and supposedly safe space, the home.
The first case was recorded in Jiquipilcowhere a woman was found dead in her home in the Santa Cruz Tepexpan community. The victim had a deep wound in the neck caused by a sharp object.
According to preliminary reports, the attack occurred while his son was working. Upon returning, he discovered the scene and notified the authorities. Paramedics only confirmed his death.
In Xalatlacothe horror was repeated. Elena, an 89-year-old woman, was found by her relatives with multiple injuries to her body. Although they tried to transfer her alive to the municipal hospital, doctors declared her dead shortly after.
The ministerial authorities are working under the hypothesis of a possible violent robbery, although no line of investigation has been ruled out.
Residents of both communities expressed their pain and anger. “It is unacceptable that they kill defenseless women in their homes. Here we all knew her, she was a good person, with no problems with anyone,” lamented Doña Rosa, a resident of Jiquipilco. In Xalatlaco, the indignation is the same: “Doña Elena couldn’t even walk well. We don’t understand so much evil. We want justice, not just promises,” said a resident of the San Juan neighborhood.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico opened investigation files for feminicide and deployed criminalistics experts and Investigative Police agents in both locations. However, as of press time, there were no arrests or public progress regarding those responsible.
