An American journalist: The settlers’ attack in Turmus Aya almost killed us, and the American media ignored the matter information

American Jewish journalist Jasper Nathaniel expressed his dissatisfaction with the American media’s ignoring of a fierce attack launched by armed Israeli settlers on Palestinian farmers while they were harvesting olives in the town of Turmus Ayya, north of Ramallah in the West Bank. He and his American colleagues were there when the attack occurred and they filmed a video clip that was widely circulated and sparked condemnation from the United Nations.

On October 19, dozens of masked settlers attacked Palestinian farmers and severely beat them under the protection of the occupation forces. They also attacked an elderly woman who was carrying a bag to harvest olives from her field, and they burned a number of vehicles.

Nearly 85% of the Palestinians living in Turmus Ayya hold American citizenship, and they constantly inform the American embassy about the ongoing settler attacks they face, without receiving any serious responses from the embassy.

Nathaniel published the video clip that he filmed explaining the details of the attack on his account on X, and commented on it, saying that the Israeli army led Palestinian farmers on the first day of the olive harvest season into a “brutal ambush” set up by armed settlers.

He added: “These people should be in prison by tomorrow, and the residents of this village and all the residents of Palestine should be protected. Enough is enough.”

Despite the widespread spread of the shocking video, the American journalist said that he was surprised that the event was not covered by the major American media, and he added in another post that the event “almost caused the death of a group of Americans at the hands of a large crowd of settlers supported by the government and the army.”

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in Palestine, Francesca Albanese, shared the video clip and commented on it, saying, “For two years, the world has watched scenes like these from the West Bank.” In the same post, she asked about the position of the Israelis protesting in Tel Aviv toward the settlers, “who act like fleeing criminals,” according to Albanese’s description.

In order to prevent these scenes from reaching the world, the occupation attacks press crews and forces them to leave the sites of these events and the villages that are being besieged in every way.

Nathaniel told the Committee to Protect Journalists that he repeatedly shouted “Journalism… American” while fleeing from the settlers who were chasing him and the Palestinians, but his cries were ignored.

The International Committee documented that settlers burned the car of Agence France-Presse photographer Jaafar Shtayyeh, and the injury of a number of other journalists as a result of beatings and gas bombs while they were covering the settlers’ attack on Palestinian farmers while they were harvesting olives in the town of Beita, south of Nablus Governorate, on the 10th of this month.
