Francisco Pinto Balsemão was the best of all of us journalists. Others will speak of the courageous politician when courage had to be paid dearly. Before the 25th of April against the dictatorship and then against military tutelage and other authoritarian drifts. From the convinced social democrat, from the moderate politician, from the defender of freedom, from the man of culture, from the international prestige precisely achieved by the many causes he embraced. The vastness of his interests and the quality of his work make him a singular, unique man, a true renaissance man of his time. But what I’m interested in highlighting, in this little corner of mine, is that Portugal has never had and will probably never have a media entrepreneur like Francisco Pinto Balsemão. With him I shared some of the best moments of my professional career.
