WASHINGTON (AP) — The president Donald Trump reported today on social networks that it will end “all trade negotiations” with Canada due to the recent broadcast of television ads in which they demonstrate against the United States tariffs, which it described as a “atrocious behavior” in order to influence the decisions of US federal courts.
The publication came after the Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carneydeclared that it aims double Canada’s exports to other countries outside the United States due to the threat posed by duty that Trump ordered.
Just last October 7, during the visit of the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney a WashingtonTrump floated the possibility of revising or replacing the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), and listed trade tensions and tariffs that could affect it.
At that meeting, Trump did not give certainty about maintaining the T-MEC as it is and he endorsed his habit of conditioning it to North American interest, which fuels interpretations that it could be deformed or limited.
Furthermore, the Trump administration opened the possibility of establishing different trade agreements with Mexico and Canada.
Days before the visit Carney a Washington some Canadian politicians had suggested abandon the trilateral agreement and seek a direct pact with USAconsidering that Mexico represents a weak point in the regional economy.
Carney challenges Trump… for the World Series
Today, the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney challenged US President Donald Trump to place a friendly bet on the outcome of the World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, Carney said Trump has not yet returned his call about the possible bet.
“I think he’s afraid, I think he’s afraid to make a bet,” Carney joked, speaking to The Associated Press while attending batting practice at Toronto’s Rogers Center a day before Game 1 of the World Series in Toronto.
“He doesn’t like to lose. He hasn’t called. He hasn’t returned my call about the bet yet, so I’m ready. We’re ready to make a bet with the United States.”
Carney predicted the Blue Jays will win the best-of-seven series in six games.
“This country is very excited. I think the world is very excited about this series,” said Carney, who emphasized the interest in Japan in Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.
Canada’s only major league team will have the entire country rooting for it during the World Series.
