Lancaster’s Pizza Hut restaurant closed with immediate effect

Lancaster’s Pizza Hut has been closed with immediate effect, following the company entering into administration on 20th October.

The restaurant, located in the city centre’s Kingsway Retail Park, joins 68 other dine-in Pizza Hut restaurants to be closed nationwide as a result of this week’s announcement.

Pizza Hut UK has announced that there will be 1,210 jobs lost due to the closures, but that “approximately 1,277 team member roles will be saved under UK TUPE legislation”.

Beyond Radio reported that the staff working in the Lancaster branch were informed on Monday that the store would be closing that day.

The company offered many discounts for students in its branches, and was a popular restaurant chain in Lancaster. One Lancaster University student told us: “I can’t believe Pizza Hut is closing, it’s such a shame. It was one of my favourite restaurants in town.”

Pizza Hut UK told us that they continue “to operate across the UK through a mix of company-owned and franchise restaurants, with 351 delivery Huts trading successfully across the UK, Northern Ireland and Ireland in addition to the 64 acquired dine-in sites as the result of this deal.”

The full closing announcement printed on the door of the Lancaster branch reads as follows:

“Notice of Site Closure

It further continues “This store has been closed with immediate effect. From this date, all operations at the site have ceased, and access will be restricted to authorised personnel only. The Joint Administrators have written to all known employees, suppliers and creditors separately.”

The Lancaster Tab reached out to the Pizza Hut UK Press Office for further comment, they added: “Pizza Hut continues to operate across the UK through a mix of company-owned and franchise restaurants, with 351 delivery Huts trading successfully across the UK, Northern Ireland and Ireland in addition to the 64 acquired dine-in sites as the result of this deal.”
