The head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, told Al Jazeera that US President Donald Trump said that the war is over and that continued American statements confirm that the war is over, indicating that the Israeli occupation has failed to achieve its goals over the course of two years of war.
He added – as part of the interview program prepared by colleague Ali Al-Dhafiri and which will be broadcast later on Al Jazeera – that Hamas will not give the occupation an excuse to resume the war, noting that the movement handed over 20 Israeli prisoners 72 hours after the ceasefire, and also handed over 17 out of 28 bodies of occupation prisoners.
He stated that new areas would be entered tomorrow to search for some of the bodies of the occupation prisoners.
On the other hand, the Hamas leader said that the movement has no reservations about any national figure residing in Gaza to manage the Strip, indicating that it will hand over all the reins of administration in the Gaza Strip to the Administration Committee, including security.
He also confirmed that there is agreement with the Fatah movement regarding the international forces for separation and monitoring of the ceasefire, as well as with all the factions regarding the fact that the mission of the UN body is reconstruction in Gaza.
He added that Hamas wants to go to elections as a prelude to reunifying the national ranks, stressing that “the people are one and want one authority and government.”
He stated that he told the American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during his meeting with them that Hamas is an advocate of stability, and that President Trump is the one capable of curbing the Israeli occupation.
He said that Hamas’ weapons are linked to the occupation and aggression, and if the occupation ends, this weapon will be transferred to the state, indicating that the issue of weapons is still a subject of discussion with the factions and mediators and that the agreement is still in its infancy.
He added, “Hamas will not take a position without the agreed-upon national position.”
He also stressed that the West Bank is under the influence of settlements, “and we urgently need to put our national papers in order.”
On the other hand, the head of the Hamas movement in Gaza said that the movement accepts the UN forces as separation forces, monitoring the borders and following up on the ceasefire in Gaza.
He also said that the issue of prisoners is national par excellence and that Hamas seeks to end the suffering of all Palestinian prisoners, noting that the occupation is intransigent regarding many of the names of the prisoners and that efforts in this aspect have not ended yet.
Regarding the humanitarian aspect, Al-Hayya confirmed that Gaza needs 6,000 aid trucks every day, not just 600, noting that the occupation is obstructing the entry of some materials into Gaza, as if we are still in the middle of the war, as he put it.
He also said, “The humanitarian issue is troubling us… and that violations are troubling people and exposing the agreement to disruption.”
He stressed that Hamas is not satisfied with the amount of aid entering the Gaza Strip, calling on mediators to intervene.
He also said that “the targeting of Doha and the catastrophic and unprecedented failure in the history of Israel constituted a setback for the occupation.”
