WEATHER: Rain set to bring relief to Gauteng after scorching heat

After a spell of scorching temperatures, Gauteng is set to experience relatively cooler conditions and rainfall towards the end of next week.

For this weekend, clear skies and warm to hot weather are expected to continue across Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, and Mpumalanga. Daytime temperatures across these provinces have been hovering between 29°C and 34°C.

The warm conditions are expected to persist until Monday, after which some regions will begin to see isolated showers from midweek onwards.

Temperatures to drop in Gauteng next week

In Pretoria, Sunday’s forecast predicts hot and sunny conditions with temperatures peaking at 32°C and a minimum of 19°C.

Johannesburg will see a similar trend, with minimum temperatures around 19°C and highs between 29°C and 30°C. By Monday, the city can expect cooler, overcast conditions with highs around 25°C and a 30% chance of rain.

From Wednesday, cooler weather will settle over the province, bringing a 60% chance of rain. According to AccuWeather, scattered thunderstorms are expected from Wednesday through Friday, with daytime highs dropping to the high teens and low 20s.

With temperatures expected to drop and the rainy season on the way, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of heavy downpours, particularly in low-lying areas.

Residents in low-lying areas are urged to be cautious of potential flooding, while motorists should prepare for wet and slippery roads that may lead to increased traffic congestion.

Gauteng to experience hot temperatures but rain is on the horizon

Last weekend, Gauteng recorded its first rainfall of the season, which brought a noticeable drop in temperatures to the high teens.
