Eskom has announced a planned nine-hour power outage in several areas of Katlehong, Gauteng, on Tuesday, 28 October, from 9:00 to 18:00. The utility said the interruption is part of scheduled maintenance to strengthen and maintain the distribution network.
The affected areas include Likole, Khumalo, Kwenele, Moleleki Extension 1, Mokoena, and Silume View Sections.
According to Eskom, the maintenance aims to “perform essential work on our distribution power lines” to ensure reliability and safety of electricity supply in the long term.
The power utility explained that such maintenance is crucial to prevent unplanned outages caused by equipment wear and tear.
“This planned interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,” Eskom stated.
Residents Urged to Stay Safe during the power outage
During the outage, Eskom reminded residents to exercise caution.
“In the interest of safety, customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply outage,” the notice read.
The utility emphasised that safety remains a top priority while work is underway. Residents are encouraged to unplug electrical appliances before the power returns to avoid potential damage caused by power surges.
Eskom also thanked the community for its patience and understanding.
“Eskom would like to thank you for your cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience that this maintenance may cause,” the notice added.
Possible Changes to the Schedule
Eskom noted that while the work is planned for Tuesday, unforeseen events could alter the schedule. “Please note that, should circumstances beyond the control of Eskom arise, the planned electricity maintenance may not proceed as communicated,” the utility cautioned.
The utility said it will keep customers informed if changes occur and urged affected residents to plan by charging essential devices and preparing for the temporary loss of power.
