MEXICO CITY.—The National Weather Serviceof the National Water Commissionissued the notice of its weather forecastat 06:00 a.m., Sunday, October 26, 2025.
For today, Low pressure channels about the interior of the country and the entry of humid air from the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, will cause heavy occasional rains in Chiapas; rains and showers in Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Campeche, Tabasco, Oaxaca, Guerrero and areas of Veracruz; as well as isolated rains in Puebla, Hidalgo, Morelos, State of Mexico and San Luis Potosí.

Category 4 Hurricane Melissa moves slowly over the Caribbean

In its report, the NHC notes that, at 8:00 am EDT (06:00 am Central Mexico Time), the eye of Hurricane Melissa was located by a NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft near latitude 16.3 North, longitude 76.4 West.
Melissa is moving west at about 7 km/h. A slow westward motion is expected today, followed by a turn to the north and northeast on Monday and Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of Melissa is expected to move near or over Jamaica through Tuesday, across southeastern Cuba Tuesday night, and across the southeastern Bahamas on Wednesday.
Category 4 hurricane


Maximum sustained winds are near 220 km/h with higher gusts. Melissa is a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional rapid intensification is expected through tonight, followed by fluctuations in intensity. Melissa is expected to be a major hurricane when it makes landfall in Jamaica late Monday night or Tuesday morning and in southeastern Cuba late Tuesday.
Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 35 km from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 280 km.
The minimum central pressure estimated by aircraft probe data is 952 mb (28.12 inches).


The state coordination of Yucatan Civil Protection (Procivy), follows up on alerts and warnings about Hurricane Melissa, in the Caribbean Sea, and reports that, for the moment, it does not represent a risk for Yucatán. It also adds that the meteor is located 1,290 km southeast of the state of Yucatán; It is moving west at 7 km/h with winds of 220 km/h and gusts of 270 km/h.


In its forecast for this Sunday, Procivy points out that, due to the entry of maritime air from the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, a hot atmosphere will prevail over Yucatan.
The maximum temperature will range between 34° and 36°C in the interior of the state and from 30° to 32°C in the coastal area.
Catastrophic scenario for the island of Jamaica


In his social network account “X”, formerly Twitter, Juan Antonio Palma Solísmeteorologist at the meteorology agency Meteored México, reported that Melissa is already a category 4 hurricane, with winds of 220 km/h and moving west at 7 km/h, and anticipates that on Monday it would possibly move as a category 5 and impact Jamaica at the end of the day, thus predicting a catastrophic scenario for the island of Jamaica.


For this Sunday, Palma Solís predicts some passing showers in different areas of the region due to the constant entry of tropical maritime air and the daytime formation (but somewhat weakened) of a trough, which he calls the “Mayan Trough.”

North component wind of 10 to 20 km/h in the region, with gusts of 30 to 45 km/h in areas of the state of Mexico and Mexico City.

During the afternoon, warm to hot atmosphere, with maximum temperatures greater than 35 °C in areas of Tamaulipas; intervals of showers in Veracruz (Huasteca Alta, Huasteca Baja, Totonaca and Olmeca regions) and in Tabasco, as well as isolated rains with possible electric shocks in Tamaulipas (Mante and Sur regions) and Veracruz (Nautla, Capital, Sotavento, Las Montañas, Papaloapan and Los Tuxtlas regions). Wind from the south and southeast of 10 to 20 km/h in the region, with gusts of 30 to 45 km/h in areas of Tamaulipas, Veracruz and Tabasco.
While, for the Yucatan Peninsula forecast: In the morning, partly cloudy skies and a warm environment, being mild in the southwest of Campeche. During the afternoon, hot weather, with maximum temperatures higher than 35 °C in areas of Campeche and Quintana Roo; partly cloudy to cloudy skies; showers and electric shocks in Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Wind from the east and northeast of 10 to 20 km/h in the region, with gusts of 30 to 45 km/h in areas of Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters high are expected on the coasts of Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
