Mexico City, October 26 (However).- The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvaoffered this Sunday to his American counterpart, Donald Trumpact as a mediator between United States (EU) and the Government of Venezuelain the midst of the military escalation in the Caribbean that has set off alerts in America Latina (AL).
The proposal was presented during a bilateral meeting in Malaysiain which both leaders focused the conversation on the duty taxes for Washington.
“Lula has raised the issue, and has said that Latin America and South America, specifically where we are, is a region of peace and he has offered to be a contact, to be an interlocutor, as he has been previously, with Venezuela to seek solutions that are mutually acceptable and correct between the two countries,” explained the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, quoted by the newspaper. Although Trump had declared that Venezuela was not among the issues to be discussed, Lula insisted on addressing the crisis due to its regional impact, since his Government considers that a military intervention in Venezuelan territory could destabilize Latin America and directly affect Brazil.
Brazil’s concern increased after the deployment of the Gerald Ford aircraft carrier in the Caribbean Sea and the US attacks against vessels suspected of drug trafficking, actions that Lula criticized the day before: “It would be much better for the United States to dialogue with the police of other countries, with the Ministry of Justice of each country, so that people could do something together.”
He also warned about the risk of normalizing military incursions: “If fashion catches on, each person could invade the other’s territory to do whatever they want. Where is the respect for the sovereignty of the countries? It’s bad. I want to discuss these issues with President Trump if he puts them on the table.”

From Washington, the tone remains firm: Stephen Miller, National Security Advisor, declared that the Government considers drug traffickers as “terrorists” and warned that “they are going to kill them”, while President Trump announced that “the land will be next”, in reference to a new phase of operations, without specifying in which countries they would be carried out.
The Pentagon confirmed that the military deployment responds to a presidential directive to “dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations and counter narcoterrorism in defense of the Homeland.” The operational force includes assault ships, F-35B fighters, P-8 patrol aircraft and MQ-9 drones, based in Puerto Rico.
In Brazil, the concern is focused on the regional impact. President Lula and his team argue that respect for sovereignty must prevail and that any solution must go through dialogue. Therefore, the mediation offer seeks to prevent the crisis from escalating into a conflict that affects all of Latin America.
