After the announcement of the 8% tax increase on violent video games in our country, some titles like GTA VI would have a higher price.
The project of Federation Expenditure Budget 2026 contemplates a package of extra fiscal measures, called ‘Healthy Taxes‘, which translate into increases in the tax rate of sugary drinks, cigarettes, violent video games y bets.

Likewise, the federal government proposes establish a special tax on the value of 8% on the provision of digital services de video games with violent content
Will new tax affect GTA VI?
The video game in question, belonging to the Grand Theft Auto franchise, is classified Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) y Pan European Game Information (PEGI)which are classifications intended for video games with explicit violence, foul language and sexual content.
Due to the above, GTA VI could be eligible for the taxes suggested by the government and if they do not have any changes, they will come into force in January 2026.
How much would the GTA cost?
Grand Theft Auto VI has a release date of May 26, 2026, so if taxes are approved, it will directly affect you.
Although there is still no fixed price, according to several leaks, it would cost around 112 dollars, which translates to 2,100 Mexican pesos and plus the 8% tax, it would add up to a total of approximately 2,270 pesos.
The measure imposed will not apply to all video games and it still remains to be clarified what type of titles would also have the addition, since there are still doubts whether Frotnite, Gears Of War or Call Of Duty will be affected.
