The Food-Pleasure-Restaurants Union (NGG) has called for a 24-hour warning strike at Coca-Cola in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. This action is part of a broader strategy to put pressure on the company in the ongoing collective negotiations. The NGG criticizes Coca-Cola’s previous offer, which does not provide for a wage increase for 2025 and only offers an increase of only 1.5 percent in 2026. According to Volker Daiss, managing director of the NGG Middle Rhine region, this is a provocation.
The union is calling for a retroactive advance increase in wages of 150 euros from September 1st as well as an increase in training allowances by 120 euros in all years of training. The collective agreement should have a term of twelve months. Coca-Cola, on the other hand, points to a wage increase of around 3.5 percent or 170 euros per month that took place in March. In addition, the company presented an economically viable offer in the first round of negotiations on September 10th.
The next round of negotiations is scheduled for November 10th in Hamburg. The NGG has already called for warning strikes at other Coca-Cola locations and is threatening to expand the strikes if the company does not move. The union emphasizes that it will continue to strike until a fair and good offer is presented.
The dispute over wage increases at Coca-Cola reflects a broader discussion about fair wages and working conditions in the food and beverage industry. In view of the rising cost of living and economic uncertainty, employee representatives in many industries are calling for higher wages and better working conditions. The results of these negotiations could have a signaling effect for other companies and industries.
