MEXICO CITY (EFE).— The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) yesterday estimated a 2.3% increase in hotel occupancy with more than 1.6 million tourists attending the traditional celebrations for the Day of the Dead throughout the country.
The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamoraspecified in a statement that the arrival of 1.6 million tourists to hotels is expected in the period between today, Monday, October 27, and Sunday, November 2.
This figure represents an increase of 2.3% compared to 2024, when around 1.5 million visitors were registered.
Rodríguez Zamora pointed out that of the total number of tourists expected this year, 73% will be national and 27% foreign, which reflects “the interest that Mexican traditions arouse throughout the world.”
“In no other part of the world is there such a lively and moving demonstration, which unites families, awakens the interest of millions and fills us with pride as a nation.”said the Secretary of Tourism.
The official added that the estimated average hotel occupancy during the next week is 60.8%, 1.4 percentage points more than in 2024.
Furthermore, he pointed out that destinations such as Mexico City, Cancun, Riviera Maya, Guadalajara y Monterrey They concentrate a large part of the tourist flow.
Although he highlighted that sustained growth is also observed in destinations such as the beaches of Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta y Mazatlanwhich “maintain an important regional dynamic.”
Considered since 2003 by the Unesco as Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanitythe celebration of the Day of the Dead is one of the most significant traditions in the country.
