Google announced this Monday, 27th, the financing of INCO and Chance with one million dollars (around 862 thousand euros) to provide advanced artificial intelligence (AI) skills to 7,000 university students in Portugal.
“Today we announce that Google.org is funding INCO and Chance with one million dollars to provide advanced AI skills and personalized career guidance to 7,000 university students in Portugal”, reads the Google Portugal blog post.
INCO and Chance “will collaborate with local universities, including the Instituto Politécnico de Santarém (IPSantarém) and the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, to offer this training, preparing students to prosper in employment sectors transformed by AI”, says the technology company.
“We will continue to invest in local infrastructure, so that new productions, creations and innovations do not have any technological limitations”, guarantees Google, which in 2022 opened the Equiano submarine cable, “which reinforces connectivity between Portugal and Africa, and, in the following year, announced another cable, Nuvem, which should be ready in 2026, and connects Portugal to the USA, including the Azores”.
This year, the technology company announced Sol, a new transatlantic submarine cable, which will connect Spain to the USA, passing through Bermuda and the Azores.
AI “offers Portugal a unique opportunity for growth and competitiveness”, highlights the technology in the publication.
“Preparing people, companies and the public sector is a process that requires close collaboration between the government and the private sector, allowing the materialization of the knowledge and tools necessary for this transformation”, he concludes.
